Holiday Drinks

I feel like the holidays always brings out the best in people - and people tend to step it up a little once Thanksgiving and black Friday roll into town. Whether it's the weather, an extra splash of color to spice up an otherwise all-black wardrobe, the introduction of boots, snazzy tights or branching out from your everyday coffee order. I mean, seriously...peppermint, gingerbread, and eggnog lattes would really not be quite so exciting were they available 365-days a year.

Reasons I LOVE the holidays...

1. Outdoor Christmas Lights
Every year my mom does a lovely job of decorating the house & I love driving around checking out what everyone else has done, too. Even the Griswold-esk ones.

2. Christmas Decorations
I made a little something for my first Christmas in my new place. Maybe I'll add more next year.

3. Warm, Cozy Sweaters
Duh.

4. Ice Skating
I know you can do it anytime of year, but it just feels so right during the winter.

5. Holiday Drinks
Gingerbread Latte, Peppermint Mocha, Apple Cider... Yum. Christmas in your mouth.

6. Baking
Tons of great spices for naughty treats.

7. Fireplaces, Cozy Blankets, Christmas Movies (Elf is also a favorite) & Pretty Pj's

9. Christmas Music

That's right, I'm that person that actually likes the cheesy tunes. Baby, it's cold outside!

Dear Dali

You are one weird mo'fo, but I happen to really dig your stuff. Me, my sister and some friends got to visit the land of Dali last summer in Spain- bad a!
Trippy surrealism at it's best:
Recreation of Mae West.
The Persistence of Memory
View of the courtyard.

You guessed it- there he lies, folks. Burried in his museum.

If you're ever in Barcelona catch a train up to this museum!

To all the best friends of the world

It's a different type of love. Maybe we all need a break from the kind of mushy, lovey dovey love that excludes the rest of the world, the kind that's limited only to you and him / her.

So this one goes out to all the best friends in the world. The ones that smiles for you when you excitedly fall in love with some new, unknown guy. The ones that sits with you at two to five in the morning listening to you cry about said boy who cheated on you even though they've got to be up at six for work. The ones who drag you to social events just to distract you from a broken heart. The ones who respond to every facebook, every twitter status update, just so you don't feel so alone and ignored. The ones who recognize you have a right to feel as shitty as you do about the boy who hurt you even though they'd spent the last two years telling you he was nothing but trash, the ones who don't tell you you're a fool, the ones who tell you you've a right to hurt. Because they're also the ones who have the strength and the love enough to tell you to snap out of it, that he was never worth it, because they're also the ones who have the courage to be honest enough to tell you you'd be a fool to take the manipulative creep back. The ones who bombard his messenger account with warnings to leave you alone, the ones who tell him behind your back to leave you well and alone, to stop messing with your mind when he's already with someone else. The ones who introduce you to new and wonderfully normal and loving boys.

This one also goes out to all the best other-gender best friends in the world. The ones that pick you up late at night for supper, just to take you out of your head. The ones that show you not all the men in the world are screw-ups and traitors, the ones that help you believe that good people still exist in the world. The ones you can laugh with without wanting to kiss, the ones who can give you that insight into that boy's soul you've been dying to know. The ones who swear they'll beat up / get the triads to beat up the poor sod who had the poor judgment to cheat on someone as wonderful and incredible as you even though it's the first night they've met you. This one goes out to all the incredible best other-gender best friends in the world who stuck around even when you abandoned them because your possessive ex-boyfriend went loco every time you even spoke to them. The ones that love you exactly the way you are, the ones that don't mind you snuggling against them just for a warm body without asking for anything more, the ones that come all the way down to the club from home just to drive you home, the ones that cry with you when you sit in your darkness wondering what you've done to deserve such betrayal from the one boy you'd give anything for. The ones that hurt with you when you're drowning in your darkness, the ones that hurt because they see your pain and can't do anything to touch you, to help you.

Friends never betray each other. We fight, sometimes. We disagree. We laugh at each other. But friends, friends are something else altogether. Friends are God's way of saying: here, I know it's tough trying to find your soulmate, but here are some other people you know for sure you can count on forever. They're like family, but better because they love you without the moral obligation attached.

This is my way of reminding the world that there is more love in the world that what exists between significant others. I love you, my best friends.

Happy Thanksgiving

Things I am thankful for:
Entry disclaimer: I am going to over use explanation points and write very cheesy things about the things on this list. Please bear with me!!!!!!

  1. My family- obviously I have to say this because you “have” to love your family. But, you know what? I actually like my family- which a person isn’t obligated to feel. All of them. Yep, I’m a lucky gal indeed! Here’s to spending plenty of QT with them in the next few days which we don’t get nearly enough of!

  2. My friends- We are all crazy in our own ways but I think that’s why it works. Something comes up in our lives and the troops march in- breakups, moving into new apartments, school, new jobs, insecurities, shopping “needs”, traveling adventures… the list goes on and on. I’m so thankful for each of them and I can’t wait to go through all the next steps of life with them- weddings, babies, whatever else comes with getting older!

  3. My puppy, Poot- He is always happy to see me and it totally makes my day. The cherry on top is that he happens to be the cutest puppy on the planet- lucky me! I sure hope there is a sig-o in the future I can say the same thing about ;)

  4. Love- On that note, I’d like to say that I feel pretty lucky for the people I have had the chance to be in love with so far in my life. It’s hard to understand why you have to lose the people you love. That they are supposed to love someone else and we are destined to find someone else, too. It’s a simple fact that is sometimes hard to accept because we are too stubborn to let go of something that does not belong to us anymore. You think that you’ll never love someone else as much as you loved them or that no one will love you as much as they did. I’m happy with where I am in my life, though. For now, I’m just a young, single lady, living in the big city, working that big girl job, learning things about my self I may not be able to if I was all locked into a relationship. I’m very thankful for the love I’ve had so far and I’m looking forward to what’s to come.

  5. My job- It’s almost been a year since I started and I’m just starting to understand the real world. I’m learning that hard work really does pay off, I’m lucky to have such a stable job and that when you take a loan out in school you really do have to pay it back- yuck! I’m also learning that just because I travel (A LOT) for my job doesn’t mean my social life/love life/friendships are on stand-by. The people who really want to hang out or get to know you can wait until you’re back to catch up (this one just starting clicking). Pretty awesome things happen when you learn to go with it! All that to say, I’m thankful for my tough job. (below- at my company's London office, oh la la)

  6. Blogging- This blog has been so much fun so far. And, (see why that's important above) you can blog from anywhere! I’m really thankful for my friend that inspired me to finally start writing- thanks B! Follow her here & here.

  7. My apartment- I am so lucky I get to live in this beautiful place! Great neighborhood, easy trolley access to work, super friendly neighbors with dogs that Poot can play with. I am thankful it is close to some great restaurants, bars and is safe (minus the little raccoon incident a couple of days ago). I love having people over and I finally feel like I’m settling into Dallas. Very thankful.

  8. Traveling- I’ve had the chance to travel to many amazing places and hope to have a life full of new places and experiences!

9. Learning- I know it’s nerdy, but I love to learn new things. I feel like I could stay in college forever. Actually scratch that, I am loving the fact I don’t have to worry about exams and papers. Good thing there is tons of stuff to learn after you graduate. I still want to learn Spanish, and maybe French, how to cook (well), how to start my own business, how to play chess, how to paint, play the piano, and more. I’m thankful for a lifetime of learning! (I told you this was going to be cheesy)

10. And, last but certainly not least: Stretchy pants by J. Crew. Eat up!

Happy Turkey day folks!
XOXO,

Kate
